About the Role:

The Horticulture Supervisor will ensure the process of production, selection, selling and dispatching are carried out efficiently. The role assists in the delivery of appropriate horticulture activities within the Supported Employment program. Our Help Nurseries are commercial businesses of Help Enterprises, a community-based social enterprise whose mission is to enhance the lifestyle and independence of people who live with disability. Our wholesale nursery business supplies high quality plants to the landscaping industry. We provide a unique, supported workplace environment for many of our employees who live with disability. You will be the face of the Nursery delivering our product to our customers in a timely manner. You will also spend time within the Nursery between deliveries, working alongside our supported employees.  

Reporting to the Head of Commercial, you will: 

  • Identify and develop opportunities to provide a wider range of products and services
  • Develop Help Enterprises brand recognition – promote the organisation as well as the products
  • Develop and update knowledge of Help Enterprises’ and competitors’ products
  • Quote and negotiate prices and terms
  • Attend promotional trade days and organise product displays
  • Supervise, train and support nursery employees to meet quality and productivity objectives
  • Directing staff of other Help Divisions in nursery requirements
  • Training of staff in horticultural practises and use of equipment
  • Assisting in the collection of orders
  • General repairs of equipment
  • Maintain irrigation system, repair when required
  • Identify nutritional, pest and disease problems within the nursery and rectify by selection of appropriate chemicals and application
  • Use horticultural practices such as pruning, dividing, staking and weeding.
  • Identify customer needs and demonstrate solutions
  • Field sales enquiries and generate orders for processing
  • Contact customers post completion of orders to gather feedback
  • Liaise with current/prospective customers to ensure quality, reliability and service are maintained at all times.
  • Ensure the efficient use of resources and equipment to keep resource wastage to a minimum
  • Ensure that all needs of employees are met, in particular as it relates to appropriate support for people with a disability as well as the company’s health and safety requirements.
  • Report on weekly activities and feedback to the Horticulture Manager
  • Report to the Horticulture Manager on sales and provide feedback on the marketing of new and established products and trends.
  • Liaise with the Horticulture Manager to ensure quality outcomes and customer satisfaction are achieved
  • Develop a positive work environment by actively recognising individual achievements and improvements
  • Participate actively at the worksite to ensure production and productivity outcomes are met

 

This role is a Full-Time role based in Mitchelton 

 

About You:

 

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Experience in Nursery/Horticultural supervising 
  • Relevant plant, pest and disease management knowledge
  • Current OH&S knowledge
  • High level organisational skills
  • Experience in quoting / tenders with demonstrated sales success within the horticulture industry
  • High level understanding of industry standards in terms of product quality and use
  • Certificate III in Horticulture (preferred)
  • AusChem Certificate
